Winery Essence Captured In Artful Furniture Style
Napa, CA (March 13, 2013) – From the creative and passionate artwork of Wilcoxen Design comes the recently launched “From The Vineyard” Collection. Reinvented from materials used in the wine making process, this stunning and incredibly refined line of work from designer Vincent Wilcoxen uniquely capture the essence of wine country.
“I’m continually thinking of unique ways to transform these age old resources that come straight from wineries and vineyards into modern, clean designs” says Vincent Wilcoxen, Owner and Creative Director for Wilcoxen Design. “These pieces capture some of the emotion and flavor of the winery”
Wilcoxen’s inspiration for the “From The Vineyard” series of furnishings and sculpture stems from his fascination with the wine making process and the materials involved. “Vine and barrel components offer a natural elegance and character all their own” Wilcoxen believes the gentle curve of a barrel stave is itself sculptural, some of which have very desirable and interesting grain patterns that are highlighted when finished.
“The natural colorations left by the wines, especially reds are rich and beautiful,” continues Wilcoxen. “One challenge when using staves and vines as a raw material is their inherent inconsistency.” As an accomplished woodworker generally accustomed to beginning a project by first straightening the raw material, working with curved and inconsistent components adds another level of complexity. “Creating balanced designs with these materials requires a more freeform approach, just as some of the best wines are produces from vines that struggle in the soil, this struggle often adds character and provides an element of sophistication to a finished piece.”
