From The Vineyard

My inspiration for the Wine series of furnishings and sculpture stems from my fascination with the wine making process and the materials involved. I find a natural elegance and character in Vines and barrel components. The gentle curve of a barrel stave is itself sculptural some of which have desirable and interesting grain patterns that are highlighted when finished. The natural colorations of the inside of barrels left by the wines, especially reds can be rich and beautiful. One challenge when using staves and vines as a raw material is their inherent inconsistency.  As an accomplished woodworker accustomed to beginning a project with straight flat stock, working with irregular materials requires a more freeform way of designing. Embracing these inconsistencies adds character and a casual elegance to a design.
